REPORT OF ACTIVITIES OF LAGOS (FOOTBALL) REFEREES SOCIETY JAN-JUNE 2013

MEMBERSHIP STRENGTH: The Society currently has a membership strength of thirty for this football season.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF 2012 NFA/NRA PROMOTION CERTIFICATE: The Society hereby acknowledged receipt of the certificates of four of our members who passed the 2012 NFA/NRA promotion examination, namely Miss Lillian Anele (Grd I), Messrs Abdul-Rahman Faro, Shoyele Funsho (Grd II) and Miss Ijeoma Obeta (Grd III).

 2013 NFA/NRA PROMOTION EXAMINATION: Five members have registered for the forthcoming promotion examination namely 3 Nos. for promotional Grade III-II, while RIT –III are two.

TRANSFER OF MEMBERSHIP: Two of our members have formally written to transfer their membership, namely Miss Liliian Anele transferring to Shomolu (Football) Referees Society with immediate effect while Elder Statesman Mr. Joe Unukpo is transferring to Udul/Uvwie (Football) Referees Society in Delta State (Football) Referees Council with effect from 31^st August 2013. He is also inviting the State Referees Council to a send-off service being organized in his honour by Maranatha Baptist Church at No. 3 Jehovah Shama Close, Off Ijoko Road, Osaro-Akute on the 1^st Sept. 2013 by 12noon.

WEEKEND TRAINING /LECTURES: The Society still conduct training/lectures for our members and non-registered individuals interested to learn the laws of the game on saturdays except Environmental sanitation days. Attendance has been encouraging.

NATIONAL PHYSICAL FITNESS TEST RE-RUN: One of our member was invited for the re-run in Abuja held between 6^th-7^th July 2013, but could not take part due to medical advice.

COMPLAINTS: Our retired referees are complaining bitterly that they are not being offered appointment as Match Commissioners at State controlled matches. Efforts should be made to see how they can be effectively taken care of.

LRS GETS FIFA BADGE REFEREE

Lagos (Football) Referees Society (LRS) came into limelight once again when out of the available FIFA badge slots available got the Assistant Referee badge in favour of Bukonla Olisa now Mrs. Bukonla Olisa-Oyekan. Details of her refereeing history would be made available in our next publication. Here is wishing her the very best of her refereeing career.

It gives me great pleasure and privilege to present our Society activities in the last one year.

MEMBERSHIP:

The membership strength of the Society for the present 2012/2013 football season is thirty made up of Grade I Rtd -10, FIFA Graded -1, Grade I-10, Grade II-2, Grade III-5 and RIT-2. Although a far cry from our previous number which use to be between 40-60. This could be attributed to lack of interest and enthusiasm as most members especially the retired referees claim they are not being offered match appointments at all levels. However, the Society EXCO is making frantic efforts to convince them on the need to get registered as there are now several competitions at the State Council level that involve match commissioners.

SOCIETY AGM/MEETINGS:

The Annual General Meeting of the Society was held on the 9^th March 2013 at the Council Secretariat where vital decisions affecting the development and growth of the Society were seriously deliberated. The council was ably represented by Mr. Moroof Aromona (Council Treasurer)

In line with the NRA statute our next Society General Meeting is scheduled for 11^th May 2013.

BANK ACCOUNT:

As a result of bureaucracy and inconveniences encountered with Union Bank Plc Ojuelegba we have suspended operating the account. The Society intends to open an account with Access Bank Plc with the effort of the Council Treasurer Mr. Moroof Aromona.

USE OF NATIONAL STADIUM FACILITY:

On the advice of the Stadium Manager an official letter was forwarded to his office on the use of the stadium facility for our weekly keepfit/lectures. (Copied the State Council and the NRA) However, we are still making use of the location situated between ramp G & H car park of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

We wish the Council fruitful deliberations at this year’s Annual General Meeting.
